My Selection of Bath Restaurants

These are Bath restaurants where I eat regularly because the food is consistently good and the service efficient and friendly.

There are also a few where I would like to eat regularly but until I am richer make wonderful special treats!

Whatever your tastes you are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out in Bath restaurants.

Royal Crescent Hotel - Bath England

The Royal Crescent Hotel is in the exact centre of the Royal Crescent but has nothing as common as a sign outside. To reach Pimpernels Restaurant you walk through the house and across the gardens. I have only eaten here once, when I won first prize in a Chamber of Commerce raffle, but the memory lingers! Come here to impress with exquisite food presented on beautiful china and the most discreet of service. Afternoon tea here is a special experience, especially in summer when you can eat outside. Or you can really push the boat out and have a Champagne tea!

Martini Restaurant - Bath restaurants

Martini Restaurant, George Street, is run by Italians and delivers reliably delicious food. Charming Italian waiters - much appreciated by the girls!

Firehouse - Bath restaurants

The Firehouse Rotisserie in John Street just off Queen Square is always busy, so it’s advisable to book if you don’t want to be one of the many people turned away. The food is Mediterranean and Californian influenced and tends to be hot and spicy. Possibly the most beautiful waiting staff of any Bath restaurants!

FishWorks - Bath restaurants

FishWorks – fresh Cornish fish is simply cooked here in Green Street over the wet fish shop. As we live in Cornwall we are looking for something different from Bath restaurants and so tend not to eat here now, but have enjoyed meals in the past and still hear good reports.

Hudson Bar and Grill - Bath restaurants

The Hudson Bar and Grill is situated away from the city centre at the London Road end of Walcot Street in the building that used to house the Hat and Feather pub, under the same ownership as the Firehouse. The cuisine here favours the meat eater and is renowned for its steaks, although of course there are non-meat choices too. On our last visit I had an enormous seafood cocktail and couldn’t manage any of the chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallows to dip.

Clarkes - Bath restaurants

Clarkes Restaurant and Wine Bar in Argyle Street

Demuths - Bath restaurants

DeMuths , North Parade Passage, is another Bath restaurant very popular with locals, so do book to eat here, except for Saturday lunchtimes when it’s first come, first served. It is a pleasant place to be, attractively decorated with colourful art on the walls. From the rear tables you can see part of Ralph Allen's Townhouse with its ornate carvings. Unusual vegetarian and vegan dishes you are unlikely to find elsewhere, and if you are suitably impressed, you can buy the recipe book or take cookery lessons!

Tilleys Bistro - Bath restaurants

Tilleys You’ll like Tilleys in North Parade Passage if like me you enjoy eating several small courses instead of ploughing through a main course. This is a restaurant which specialises in starters, or at least starter-sized dishes, so you can mix and match flavours and textures.

The Bath Priory Hotel and Restaurant - Bath England

The Bath Priory Hotel and Restaurant in Weston Road is owned by Andrew Brownsword, who bought the famed Gidleigh Park in Devon in 2005 and also owns city-centre boutique hotels around the country. The Priory is situated on the far side of Victoria Park from the city, and is recommended for a special occasion if you want delicious food and excellent service. Traditional country house style decor, wonderful paintings, and pretty gardens where you can work off your lunch with a game of croquet.
