When you follow my favourite Bath shopping tour you will discover many of the city of Bath's finest independent shops in its beautiful Georgian streets and passages ...
I like to start my Bath shopping tour by the Assembly Rooms and make my way down Saville Row and Bartlett Street to George Street, and then down Milsom Street.
At the bottom of Milsom Street I turn right into Quiet Street and have a look down Queen Street, then retrace my steps back to Milsom Street and over into Green Street and Broad Street.
I'll then come back down Broad Street and turn right into New Bond Street with detours into New Bond Street Place and Old Bond Street.
I cross Upper Borough Walls and turn left into Northumberland Place, walking to the end and turning right and then right again, which brings me into The Corridor. I then turn left and head down towards the Pump Rooms and the Abbey. Unless I have to get something specific, my favourite Bath shopping tour tends to avoid Union Street and Stall Street where you can find chain stores such as WH Smith, Marks and Spencer, Boots and BHS. You can find these anywhere and when in Bath, I prefer to focus on its uniqueness.
There are more interesting shops and cafes along York Street, Abbey Green and North Parade Passage.
To really cover most of the independent shops, I’d then turn north again from the east end of North Parade Passage into what is locally known as Bog Island (look for the former public conveniences in the middle!) and on into Orange Grove.
From the High Street, turn right into the Guildhall Market and come out the other end onto Grand Parade, where you get a great view of Pulteney Bridge and the weir.
Cross the bridge, which has shops on both sides, and walk down to the fountain in Laura Place from where you can see down the imposing length of Great Pulteney Street to the Holburne Museum.
Come back across the bridge and turn right either by Duck, Son and Pinker, which will lead you into the Podium shopping centre or at the top of Bridge Street. Either way you will find yourself outside the Waitrose supermarket. Go to the right of the church and wander down Walcot Street, one of the most characterful areas of the city.
Opposite John’s Bikes there is a flight of steps which takes you up to Bladud Buildings. Cross the road and turn right and immediately left into Hay Hill. At the top, turn right and then left into Bennett Street.
You will see the Assembly Rooms down to the left. You are back where you started!
You can easily allow a whole day for this Bath England shopping tour with some stops along the way for a reviving coffee and some lunch.
